ROOT CANAL THERAPY

When a tooth becomes infected or the pulp inside is damaged, a root canal may be the best solution to restore both its function and appearance. Root canal therapy has helped millions of people save their natural teeth and avoid the need for more extensive procedures like extractions.
At Thomas Dental Group, Doctors Michael Thomas II and Brittany Thomas provide comfortable, effective root canal therapy to help you preserve your smile and maintain good oral health.
Benefits of Root Canal Therapy
Save Your Natural Tooth
Root canal therapy allows you to keep your natural tooth instead of opting for an extraction. Preserving your tooth helps maintain proper bite function and prevents the shifting of surrounding teeth.
Relieve Pain and Discomfort
An infected tooth often causes severe pain or discomfort. Root canal therapy effectively relieves this pain by removing the infection and sealing the tooth, helping you feel better quickly.
Prevent Further Damage
An untreated infection can spread and lead to more severe problems, including abscesses or tooth loss. By addressing the issue early with a root canal, we can prevent these complications and keep your smile intact.
How Root Canal Therapy Works
1. Initial Evaluation and RADIOGRAPHS
Dr. Thomas and Dr. Brittany Thomas will begin by thoroughly examining the affected tooth and taking X-rays to assess the extent of the infection or damage to the pulp. This allows us to create a personalized treatment plan. CBCT 3D image may be necessary for proper evaluation.
2. Removing the Infected Tissue
Local anesthesia is used to numb the area around the tooth, ensuring a comfortable procedure. Dr. Thomas will then remove the infected or damaged pulp inside the tooth, thoroughly cleaning the inner chambers.
3. Sealing the Tooth
Once the pulp is removed and the tooth is cleaned, we fill and seal the tooth to prevent future infection. In some cases, a temporary filling is placed, and a permanent restoration (like a crown) is added to restore full function and strength.
4. Recovery and Aftercare
Most patients experience minimal discomfort following the procedure. You’ll be given aftercare instructions to help you manage any swelling or mild pain, and we’ll monitor your recovery through follow-up visits.
