Dental emergencies can happen unexpectedly, often bringing discomfort or concern. Whether you’re experiencing sudden pain or an injury to your tooth, timely care is important. Our team is here to provide calm, responsive support when urgent dental needs arise.
Doctors Michael Thomas II and Brittany Thomas at Thomas Dental Group offer same-day emergency appointments whenever possible to help relieve discomfort and protect your oral health.
What To Do Before You Arrive
Taking the right steps while waiting to see an emergency dentist can help reduce discomfort and protect your tooth.
1. Severe Toothache
Rinse your mouth gently with warm water and floss carefully to remove any trapped debris. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gums. Over-the-counter pain relief may help until your appointment.
2. Knocked-Out Tooth
Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root). If possible, gently rinse it without scrubbing and try to place it back into the socket. If that isn’t possible, keep it in milk or saliva and seek care immediately.
3. Cracked or Broken Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth until evaluated.
4. Lost Filling or Crown
Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on the affected tooth. If you still have the crown, bring it with you to your appointment.
5. Swelling or Signs of Infection
Swelling may indicate infection and should be evaluated promptly. A cold compress may help reduce discomfort, but professional treatment is necessary to address the underlying cause.
When Should I Seek Immediate Care?
If you are experiencing uncontrolled bleeding, significant facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or trauma to the jaw, seek emergency medical care immediately.
For urgent dental concerns, contacting our office as soon as possible allows us to guide you on the next steps.
